Twitter Censors Student Journalist On Behalf Of The Indian Government Andrew Torba, August 22, 2019August 22, 2019 Share this: The authoritarians over at Twitter Inc are once again working at the behest of foreign governments to censor users. This time they’ve gone after a student journalist from the Columbia Journalism School who has been critical of the Indian government’s policies. This is a worrying new trend from Twitter, who was also caught accepting paid ad dollars from the Communist Chinese state media outlets and allegedly training Chinese government officials on how to properly use Twitter so they could slam the Hong Kong protestors. Received legal notices from @twitter for two days straight: the Gov of India has complained that I’ve violated the “laws of India.”Till yesterday, @twitter cited certain tweets to be problematic (for India).Today, my account @wajskhan in general is allegedly in violation.— Wajahat S. Khan (@WajSKhan) August 22, 2019 So far, @twitter has been very straightforward, giving me my legal options. Till yesterday, I was advised that among my choices, deleting certain tweets was one option. However, not quite sure what to do today, considering my entire account – active since ‘09 – is at stake.— Wajahat S. Khan (@WajSKhan) August 22, 2019 The student received legal notices from Twitter about “problematic” tweets and among other options he would be forced to delete said tweets. He has written back to Twitter to appeal this, but has yet to hear back. However, because of India’s leverage – & location of many regional media offices there, including @twitter’s – critics of Delhi’s #Kashmir policy will be/are being silenced. That defies the transnational spirit & ethos of social media in general – and @twitter’s, too, one hopes.— Wajahat S. Khan (@WajSKhan) August 22, 2019 As the student points out: Twitter has offices in India. Therefore they must bend the knee to the Indian government. Gab, however, does not have this problem. We are based only in the United States and regularly turn down requests for censorship from foreign governments. The student makes it clear that he’s going to continue to be critical of the Indian government, even if it means losing his Twitter account to do so. Hopefully he will get on Gab so he won’t need to worry about this anymore. To be clear: I will continue to report/comment on the Indian government & its polarising, right-wing leadership – and/or Pakistan, with its praetorian deep state, for that matter. And/or on Iran’s dictatorial regime. And/or on Afghanistan’s corrupt narco-state. I will not stop.— Wajahat S. Khan (@WajSKhan) August 22, 2019 Big Tech censorshiptwitter
Big Tech YouTube killing built-in ‘Messages’ feature next month August 21, 2019August 21, 2019 Share this:YouTube is killing their DM system. They don’t want you communicating in “private” on their platform anymore. In fact, in an ideal world they don’t want you exchanging messages at all. They want you passively consuming videos and ads, all day long. Like a good consumer data slave. RIP YouTube… Read More
