Yesterday a journalist from the New York Times reached out to me about a story he was working on regarding social media companies that cater…

In a recent interview, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for greater federal regulation of social media platforms, asserting that “we lose total control” if these companies do not moderate content on their sites. This follows just one week after former Secretary of State John Kerry expressed concerns at a World Economic Forum panel about the First Amendment posing a challenge in combating online “misinformation” and “disinformation” related to climate change.
It is clear that the fight for free speech online is far from over.
As I write this post, news is breaking about a second assassination attempt by another leftist lunatic on President Donald J. Trump as he was out golfing today. This is a dire warning to all Americans. If they can come after President Trump, they can come after any of us. This is a clear sign that we are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history.
In a world where the power to express oneself freely is increasingly under threat, courage has become a rare and cherished commodity. We have been conditioned to submit to our adversaries out of fear, allowing them to dictate the boundaries of our thoughts and words. But if we are to reclaim our voices and restore the fundamental right of free speech, we must find the strength to stand up against those who seek to silence us.
The recent situation involving Starlink and the Brazilian government highlights a complex and concerning intersection of technology, law, and free speech. Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, initially resisted a Brazilian Supreme Court order to block access to the social media platform X, also owned by Musk. This resistance was due to the Brazilian authorities freezing Starlink’s financial assets as leverage to enforce compliance with the order. Eventually, Starlink decided to comply with the order to maintain its operational license in Brazil, despite the asset freeze being contested as unlawful by the company.
This incident sets a worrisome precedent for free speech and the operations of foreign companies in sovereign nations. By freezing Starlink’s assets to enforce compliance, the Brazilian government has demonstrated a powerful tool that other countries might emulate to control digital platforms and content. Such actions could encourage governments worldwide to leverage financial and operational pressures to enforce censorship, potentially stifling free speech and innovation.
Yesterday Elon Musk and X made a significant announcement that they have filed an antitrust lawsuit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), and GARM members CVS Health, Mars, Orsted, and Unilever. This bold move is a direct consequence of their actions, which have cost X billions of dollars and severely impacted their ability to operate as a free speech platform. The video streaming platform Rumble has joined them and filed suit as well.
In recent years, right-wing culture has devolved into a spectacle of so-called “conservatives” sharing clips of insipid harlots spouting the most depraved drivel week after week, interspersed with sharing footage of debauched individuals engaging in unspeakable acts on the streets of San Francisco.
As the nation enjoys the delights of summer, Congress has once again turned its attention to issues that are of little concern to the majority of Americans. The “Countering Antisemitism Act” has recently been introduced in the Senate, raising concerns about its potential impact on free speech in the United States. As I previously discussed in May, the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023, which shares striking similarities with this newly proposed legislation.
Dear Gab Community,
I wanted to inform you about a recent development that underscores our unwavering commitment to free speech principles and the protection of our users’ privacy. We have just received a data request from the German government concerning a user who, back in 2022, made a comment that was deemed “offensive” by a German politician. This comment, which referred to the politician’s weight, has prompted the German government to demand that we hand over the user’s data so they can identify and potentially imprison them for up to five years. Yes, you read that correctly: the German government is demanding Gab user data over a two year old post that called a German politician fat.
Greetings Gab Community,
Today, I want to address a matter of utmost importance – the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) law, its implications, and our stance as a platform committed to protecting free speech. The law goes into effect starting today and Gab will not be complying.
Dear Gab Community,
We want to keep you informed about an important development involving Gab and its commitment to preserving the principles of free speech and open discourse. Our platform, which is based in the United States, has recently received a censorship demand from a foreign country – New Zealand. We feel it is our responsibility to share this news with you, as transparency is crucial in upholding the values we hold dear. As many of you already know we regularly turn down censorship demands from foreign governments including France, Germany, and the UK among others.
