The “Crunchy Mom”: A Beacon of Hope in a Toxic World Andrew Torba, September 13, 2024September 13, 2024 Share this: A few days ago, I stumbled upon a term that perfectly encapsulated the lifestyle of my wife and many of my close friends’ spouses: “crunchy mom.” Originating from TikTok circles, this term describes women who adhere to a “crunchy” lifestyle, valuing health, simplicity, and self-sufficiency. These women, often pejoratively labeled as old-fashioned or unconventional, are, in fact, the unsung heroes of our time. They are the countercultural moms raising up the next generation of children to avoid the toxicity all around us. A crunchy mom might be involved in activities such as homeschooling her children, making her own clothes, growing her own food, and avoiding mainstream consumerism. These actions may seem like mere hobbies to the uninitiated, but they represent a conscious choice to escape the toxic influence of modernity and protect her family from its detrimental effects. Once we became parents, my wife and I quickly realized that our enemies are poisoning us slowly over time from every angle. The food is toxic, the cosmetics and shampoo are toxic, the entertainment is toxic, the school system is toxic, and the apps are toxic. The only escape is to go all in on self-sufficient sovereign living: the elimination of as much toxicity as possible through homesteading, homeschooling, and homemade everything. I realize not everyone can go all in on all of these things, but we certainly can educate and inform each other to make incremental improvements to our consumption of food, products, and information. For example a recent study led by Michael S. Bloom, professor in the Department of Global and Community Health at George Mason’s College of Public Health, found that the use of skin care products, including lotions, hair oils, hair conditioners, ointments, and sunscreen, is associated with higher levels of phthalates in children’s urine. Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and durable. They are often found in everyday products like toys, food packaging, cosmetics, and cleaning products. Phthalates can easily leach into the environment and be ingested or inhaled by humans. These chemicals have been linked to various health issues, particularly in children. Some studies suggest that exposure to phthalates may be associated with developmental disorders, learning disabilities, and reproductive problems. Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors, which means they can interfere with the body’s hormonal systems. This can lead to issues like reduced sperm count, early puberty, and even cancer. Children are more vulnerable to the effects of phthalates because their bodies are still developing and they have a higher metabolic rate, which allows them to absorb more chemicals. Pregnant women are also at risk, as phthalates can cross the placenta and affect the developing fetus. This research is just the tip of the iceberg. Once you start looking into seed oils, microplastics, and other toxins in just about every product on our store shelves, you can’t unsee it. We are slowly being destroyed, and at best, our government is ignoring it; at worst, they are endorsing it. The only way out is to slowly take back our sovereignty and educate others about this situation. That’s why RFK Jr.’s message has been so popular with crunchy moms. His message of making American healthy again taps into their top concern: the health and well-being of their families and, most especially, our children. Rather than relying on traditional schooling, many crunchy moms choose to educate their children at home or enroll them in alternative schools. This allows for a more personalized and flexible learning experience that caters to each child’s unique needs and interests. Crunchy moms often teach their children valuable life skills, such as gardening, cooking, and sewing. These skills not only promote independence but also help children develop a greater appreciation for the world around them. Crunchy moms are also known for their commitment to providing a healthier lifestyle for their children. They opt for organic foods, natural cleaning products, and eco-friendly materials, all in the name of reducing toxins in our lives. By choosing a different path, crunchy moms often face criticism and judgment from those who don’t understand their lifestyle. However, they remain resilient and continue to advocate for what they believe in, proving that it takes courage to stand up for one’s beliefs. The crunchy mom is a beacon of hope in a toxic world. By embracing a lifestyle that values simplicity, self-sufficiency, and health, she is actively working to protect her family from the dangers of modernity. As more and more people wake up to the hidden dangers lurking in our everyday products, it’s clear that the “crunchy” lifestyle will only become more popular. She is a modern-day Proverbs 31 woman, embodying the qualities of health, sustainability, and compassion. By making conscious choices that benefit her family and the world around her, she is a true example of a virtuous and wise woman in the 21st century. Let us support and encourage these brave women as they lead the charge in creating a healthier, safer world for our families and thank God for their wisdom on these matters.
